Survival Garden tips by Jackie Clay from Backwoods Home Magazine

Posted by on April 19, 2011

Hi All,

This is a picture of Jackie Clay with her gigantic rhubarb plants.  If you haven’t heard of Jackie yet, that’s OK.  She is a writer for the Backwoods Home Magazine, and an expert at homesteading skills.  I’ve read BHM for over 10 years now, and look forward to every new issue.  Please check out her articles, blog and “Ask Jackie” section of the magazine.

With many of us thinking about our vegetable gardening plans, it is great to get ideas and advice from experienced people like Jackie.  She is one of my role models and heroes!  “Jackie’s Tips for Hardcore Homesteading” by Jackie Clay is well written, including these sections:  The Survival Garden, Crops for a Survival Garden, Perennial for the Survival Garden and more.

One of the keys to a Survival Garden (Emergency Garden) is to have heirloom, non-hybrid, non-GMO Preparedness Seeds or Survival Seeds.  This allows you to save seeds from year to year, without having to buy more seed.  This cannot be done with the modern hybrid seeds.

Are you prepared to grow your own food?

A lot of of the things you say happens to be supprisingly legitimate and it makes me wonder why I hadn’t looked at this with this light previously. Your piece really did switch the light on for me personally as far as this topic goes. Nonetheless at this time there is 1 position I am not necessarily too cozy with so while I try to reconcile that with the actual main theme of the position, let me observe exactly what the rest of your visitors have to say.Nicely done.

Hey are using WordPress for your site platform? I’m new to the blog world but I’m trying to get started and set up my own. Do you require any coding knowledge to make your own blog? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

WordPress is the platform, and I am new to this myself. You really don’t need to know coding, but you can copy and paste html code if you wish. Check out the different webhosting sites such as Thanks.
